Signs of an Unhealthy Relationship in Orange, CA

Signs of an Unhealthy relationship in Orange, CA

Did you know domestic violence is a health issue?

Domestic violence while pregnant may cause complications in your pregnancy.  But we can help!

A medical appointment with one of our Obria doctors or nurses is a good time to talk about how your relationship and how it may be affecting your health, as well as the health of your baby and/or children.  We have domestic violence resources that may be needed, plus your medical visit is confidential.  You have a right to privacy, even if your partner comes with you to an appointment. If you think your relationship is unhealthy, there are things you can do to make it better. Domestic violence happens because someone made a choice to manipulate and control you to make themselves more powerful.

Statistics show that children who grow up in a violent household are more likely to have chronic health problems, experience learning or behavioral problems, be victims of sexual assault, or commit suicide. Plus, they are more likely to become abusive themselves or be in an abusive relationship.  Stop the pattern and know what to do if you are in an abusive relationship:

MAKE A SAFETY PLAN:

▪️ Teach your children when and how to call 9-1-1.

▪️ Get into the fetal position to keep yourself and your baby safe.

▪️ Avoid areas like the kitchen and bathroom where household items can be used as weapons.

▪️ Plan a safe place to go in case you and your children need to leave quickly.

▪️ Hide a bag of clothes, medications, and important documents to take with you.

▪️ Be careful when using the computer or your phone, which can reveal your location and activity.
