Appointments are one-on-one and the nurse was knowledgeable and helpful. I received tons of useful information as well as they did an ultrasound. Your Visit – What to Expect

On your first visit, our friendly receptionist will welcome you and ask you to fill out a few forms before you meet with a nurse. These forms include medical questions that help us learn more about your situation and medical history. This allows us to be able to know your needs and how we might best help you.

Meet with a Nurse

Then, you will meet and talk with one of our registered Nurses. The nurse will carefully review the information you provided as well as ask more about your circumstances and the things that are going on in your life. Our competent and compassionate nurses will listen to your thoughts, concerns, and questions, and provide you with support, information, and resources you need.

Pregnancy Test

Next you will be advised to take a Pregnancy Test to confirm that you are indeed pregnant. Your nurse will first outline the steps to you of what this process will look like. It will take just a few minutes to take the test, and a few more to get the results.

Obria offers urine pregnancy testing that is 97–99% accurate. If the result of a pregnancy test is negative but you still have many pregnancy symptoms, we may perform a blood pregnancy test.
Both types of pregnancy tests produce effective and evidence-based results.

If the Pregnancy Test is Positive

Pregnancy Verification

If your pregnancy test is positive, the nurse will fill out and sign an official Pregnancy Verification form. This form will act as the official document that serves as proof of pregnancy for insurance companies, community agencies that provide services like nutrition, and employers. Some doctors or other clinics require pregnancy verification before allowing you to make an appointment with them regarding your pregnancy.

Your nurse will also sit down with you to educate you on what stage you are at in your pregnancy and address any additional questions or concerns you may have. Whether you’re considering parenting, adoption, or abortion, we want you to feel well informed and educated.

Option – Ultrasound

Most patients are eligible for an ultrasound on their first visit.

Ultrasounds are an imaging technique that uses a device to bounce sound waves off the developing fetus and create an image on a monitor. Ultrasounds can be used to help confirm pregnancy.

Transvaginal ultrasounds are the most commonly used diagnostic procedure in obstetrics. The use of ultrasound is a convenient, painless procedure that yields immediate results and is considered safe. ²

The ultrasound is a diagnostic tool and enables us to rule out miscarriage and are used to: ²

  • Confirm pregnancy
  • Detect fetal heartbeat
  • Determine fetal age
  • Determine due date
  • Determine location of the pregnancy (intrauterine/ectopic)

Option – Abortion Info

If you’re considering abortion, the nurse will talk with you about the different abortion types, procedures, risks, and possible complications. The types of abortion near you that may be available depend on factors such as how far along you are in your pregnancy which will be discussed with you during your visit. Please note, Obria does not provide nor refer for abortions.

Option – Prenatal Care Info

If you want information about prenatal care, we have information about pregnancy nutrition, nausea relief, OB/GYN doctor referrals, and other resources.

Option – Parenting and Adoption

We also have valuable information about parenting and adoption if that’s what you are considering.

Parenting information includes education, support, financial assistance, resources, and more.

Adoption information includes education and referrals.

If the Pregnancy Test is Negative

If the pregnancy test is negative, the nurse will explain possible reasons why you missed your period and address any additional follow up questions you may have.

The nurse will also explain the potential risk of a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) or Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD). The nurse will provide helpful resources about decreasing risks to help you maintain good health. Obria provides low-cost to no cost (free) STD testing.
