Before you make a decision about parenting, adoption, or abortion, it\u2019s important for you to have an ultrasound.<\/p><p><strong>An ultrasound will confirm the pregnancy is growing where it should.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>While a positive pregnancy test indicates you\u2019re pregnant, it does not determine if your pregnancy is growing where it should. An ultrasound will confirm that the pregnancy is growing inside the uterus and rule out an ectopic pregnancy, which is when the fertilized egg implants somewhere other than the uterus. Abortion procedures will not end a pregnancy that is not inside the uterus and continuing the pregnancy could destroy an ovary or fallopian tube and cause life-threatening complications for the mother. Ectopic pregnancies require immediate emergency care.<\/p><p><strong>An ultrasound will determine gestational age.<br \/><\/strong>The gestational age is how far along in your pregnancy you are. When you are considering all pregnancy options, it\u2019s important to know how far along you are before making your decision. For example, certain abortion procedures are not possible during certain stages of pregnancy. And if you choose to parent or to make an adoption plan, it\u2019s important to know the gestational age so you can plan accordingly and arrange for prenatal care.<\/p><p><strong>An ultrasound will confirm a viable pregnancy.<br \/><\/strong>Did you know that a baby has a heartbeat around 21 days of development? A viable pregnancy means that there is a heartbeat and the baby is alive. An ultrasound can help determine the viability of your pregnancy and the likelihood that you will carry to term. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), 10-25% of all clinically recognized pregnancies will end in miscarriage. If your pregnancy is non-viable, then the ultrasound will allow you to avoid the unnecessary health risks associated with an abortion.<\/p><p>Our goal at Obria Medical Clinics is to empower our community to make healthy decisions regarding their reproductive health, family, and sexual integrity.
